February 23rd, Thursday: SADS Lecture Series.Paul Helman of the California Railway Museum will present a lecture on Art Deco railway stations, streamlined trains and passenger car interiors. Join us at our new lecture venue at the East Lawn Memorial Park in its renovated 1926 Art Deco building at 43rd and Folsom Blvd. Doors open at 7 pm, lecture begins at 7:30 pm. Cost: $5 donation for members, $7 donation for non-members. Light refreshments.

February 4th, Saturday: 14th Annual Sacramento Museum Day. A record 28 museums from the greater Sacramento area offer free or half price admission from 10 am to 4 pm. February 23rd– February 26th, Thursday thru Sunday: “Dizzy Heights: Silent Cinema and Life in the Air,” presented by the Berkeley Pacific Film Archive and co-presented by the San Francisco Silent Film Festival. This series explores the intersection of silent cinema and aviation. It was film that first allowed moviegoers to vicariously experience flight. All programs feature live musical accompaniment. March 24th– April 1st: “Napoleon” at the Oakland Paramount Theatre. The San Francisco Silent Film Festival presents the only US premiere of this 1927 classic film. See the complete restoration by Academy Award-winning historian Kevin Brownlow and hear the orchestral score by Carl Davis who will conduct the Oakland East Bay Symphony. PLAN AHEAD

May, 2012: Capital Decades: 1930s. The Sacramento Room of the Sacramento Public Library is tentatively planning a month long lecture program focusing on Sacramento in the 1930s. Future information will be featured on the events calendar of the Sacramento Room of the library at www.saclibrary.org and we will keep SADS members posted!

May 5th, Saturday: Art Deco Preservation Ball, hosted by the Art Deco Society of California. In conjunction with the Golden Gate Bridge Conservancy, the Ball celebrates the 75th anniversary of this international landmark. For further details go to www.artdecosociety.org.
