February 25th, Thursday:  SADS Lecture Series – “Discovering Hidden Treasures” presented by Brian Witherell. The presentation is a slide show selection of interesting and sometimes significant discoveries made in the antiques trade. It includes items featured by Brian and his father Brad Witherell while working as an invited appraiser for the PBS television show Antiques Roadshow. Join us at the SMUD Building, 6201 S Street (between 59th and 65th).  Doors open at 7:00 pm, lecture begins at 7:30.  Cost: $5 donation for members, $7 donation for non-members.  Light refreshments.

April 17th, Saturday: Quarterly Dinner; SADS Lecture. Location: AVIATORS Restaurant at the Sacramento Executive Airport, 6151 Freeport Blvd., Sacramento, CA 95822. Lecture: 10th Annual World Congress on Art Deco, presented by SADS member Bruce Woodward who attended this extraordinary event last May in Montreal. He will recount the delightful events, tours and lectures he experienced with many amazing photographs. Lecture begins at 7:30.  Cost: $5 donation for members, $7 donation for non-members. Refreshments available from restaurant.

April 24th, Saturday:  SADS Sponsored Event:  Sacramento Terra Cotta Walking Tour.  Presented by Gary Kurutz, author of “The Architectural Terra Cotta of Gladding, McBean” (available for signing) and Principal Librarian from the California State Library.  Tour starts mid-morning with an introductory sideshow (Location and additional details TBD).   There will be buildings with terra cotta architectural decoration from the Gladding McBean Factory in Lincoln as well as other manufacturers.  We may meet afterwards for lunch - more details to be announced via website, e-mails and flier.

Friday Night Swing:  Midtown Stomp, Eastern Star Ballroom, Sacramento. Midtown Stomp offers swing dancing every Friday night at the Eastern Star Ballroom at 2719 K Street in Midtown Sacramento. Join their beginning swing-dancing lesson from 8 to 9 pm and dance from 9 pm to midnight on Fridays. Thru February 27th: “Before ‘Capraesque’: Early Frank Capra” film program presented by the Berkeley Art Museum, Berkeley. February 12th thru 14th, Friday thru Sunday:  The 43rd California International Antiquarian Book Fair, Hyatt Regency Century Plaza, Los Angeles. The theme for this year's design concept and Special Exhibits is all about great books turned into great movies.  Over 200 rare booksellers from around the world will offer books on the history of travel & exploration (including maps), early science and medicine, technology & manufacture, law and commerce, children’s books, literature and the arts. There will be first editions of 20th century literature, complete with dust jackets and superb illustrated books in fine condition. March 6th, Saturday:  “An Evening at Cabaret – A Night of 1930s Decadence in Berlin,” Hosted by the Period Events and Entertainment Re-Creation Society (PEERS) at the Masonic Lodge of San Mateo.  Spend a swinging evening in the most decadent cabaret in 1930s Berlin.  The guest band for the evening is the brilliant Lee Presson and the Nails playing both ‘20s and ‘30s Swing and elegant vintage ballroom dance music. Suggested costume is 1930s costume or vintage or modern evening dress.  Theatrical costume, including showgirl attire, is also welcome. Entertainment includes a short half-time floorshow and DJ dance music.  Complimentary light refreshments will be served throughout the evening. March 31st thru April 25th, (Wednesday thru Saturday evenings, Sunday Matinees): “Lady, Be Good,” 42nd, Street Moon Theatre, San Francisco.  42nd Street Moon Theatre’s Ira Gershwin celebration kicks off with one of the earliest Gershwin hits.  Fred and Adele Astaire originally starred in this farce about a brother-and-sister vaudeville team, Dick and Susie Trevor, who, through a series of madcap adventures find themselves rocketing from the state of the dispossessed to wealth and popularity among the Long Island haute monde. April 17th and 18th, Saturday and Sunday:  Annual Wear and Remembrance Vintage Apparel Fair, Yuba City.  This wonderful annual event will be held in a new location this year – the Veteran’s Hall at 1425 Veteran’s Circle in Yuba City, which is off Civic Center Drive.  The show features collectible women’s and men’s clothing, jewelry, shoes, purses and textiles.  Show times are 10 am to 5 pm on Saturday and 11 am to 4 pm on Sunday.
